Suzette Bucket Hat

Buckets hats are SO popular right now. There are so many versions out there. Cotton yarn is the best type of yarn to use for Summer hats. I like to use Lily’s Sugar ‘n Cream. It gives a little more structure and there are SO MANY color opions.

I started with my original Crochet Bucket hat. A simple style. When I used the Suzette stitch in another pattern I decided it would look great in a summer hat. It adds some nice texture to this hat.

I also have a Mini Me Suzette Bucket hat for kids. Together they make a great Mommy and Me set.

Supplies

Gauge:  with cotton yarn & 5.5mm hook:   7SC in 6 rows = 2” square

Abbreviations

Special Stitches

Suzette ST – SC and DC in same ST, skip next ST.  You will be turning after each Suzette Stitch row so that each row will alternate direction.

Crab Stitch – Crab Stitch or Reverse Single Crochet

Infant     (13-15” head size)

Start with 5.5mm hook

Bucket 

Start with magic circle (photo 1) 

Rd 1– CH 1, SC 6 in magic circle, SL ST, CH 1 (do this at the end of each round)  (6)
Rd 2- SC INC,  (12)
Rd 3– SC, SC INC,  (18)
Rd 4– SC 2, SC INC  (24)
Rd 5– SC 3, SC INC  (30)
Rd 6- SC 4, SC INC  (36)
Rd 7– SC 5, SC INC  (42)

Rd 8- SC around  (42)
Rd 9– SC 6, SC INC, SL ST in next ST and CH 1 TURN  (48)

** Change to 5.0mm hook **

RD 10 –  (WS) Suzette ST, TURN       (24 Suzette Stitches)

RD 11 – (RS) Suzette ST, TURN       (24 Suzette Stitches)

RD 12-15 – Repeat RD 10 & 11,  keep turning after each round until round 15, stay on the right side after 15.

RD 16 – SC around  (42)    Laid flat, this should measure 7” across

** Change to 5.5 hook for brim **

Brim

Rd 17- SC 5, SC INC  (63)

Rd 18- SC 6, SC INC   (72)

Rd 19-21- SC around, on last round, SL ST in next ST  (72)

Rd 22-  Crab stitch/Reverse SC around
