Sunburst Coasters & Trivets

Winters can be dreary in Michigan and this week we have had some beautiful sunny days. The sunshine inspired this set. They look like sunbursts to me.

I like to use cotton macrame cord for coasters and trivets. They are sturdy and can handle the heat if you place a hot pan or pot on them. I order my cord through Amazon. I can get large quantities for a cheaper price. There are so many beautiful colors to choose from. I used 2mm cord for the coasters and 4mm cord for the trivets.

For the placemats, you can also use Polypropylene Macrame Ribbon. These could also be made with cotton yarn. For the coasters I would use a single strand. For the trivets, I would use 2 strands.

This pattern has 5 sizes. The coasters have 2 sizes, the small is 4.25″-4.5″ and the medium is 4.75″-5″ in diameter. There are 2 trivet sizes, the small is 7″ and the medium is 10″ and the Placemat is 13″. The placemat could also just be used as a large trivet.

These are great sellers at markets and are perfect to make for gifts. A set of these would be a great House Warming gift. I have also used my Boho Flower Coasters & Trivets as a wedding gift.

Large Coaster 4.75″ – 5″

4.5mm hook with 2mm cotton cord

Start with a magic ring.

RD 1 – CH 3, DC 13

RD 2 – CH 4, **DC in next ST, CH 1, DC in next ST**, repeat around (14 DC-CH 1 combos)

RD 3 – CH 3, DC in each ST and DC 2 in each CH space (41 sts + CH 3)

RD 4 – CH 1, SC in same ST, SC in the next ST, CH 2 Picot, **SC in the next 3, CH 2 Picot**, **repeat pattern around in each ST (42 SC, 14 Picots)

Small Trivet 7″

6.5mm hook with 4mm cotton cord

Start with a magic ring.

RD 1 – CH 3, DC 13 in the magic ring, (CH 3 counts as a DC) (14)

RD 2 – CH 4 (counts as DC and CH 1), **DC in next ST, CH 1**, **repeat around, (you will have 13 DC, CH 1 combos, plus your starting CH 4)

RD 3 – CH 3, DC 2 in each CH space and DC in the top of each DC (41 + Ch 3)

RD 4 – CH 1, SC in the same ST, SC in the next ST, CH 2 Picot, **SC in the next 3, CH 2 Picot**, **repeat pattern around in each ST (42 SC, 14 Picots)

Medium Trivet 10″

6.5mm hook with 4mm cotton cord

Start with a magic ring.

RD 1 – CH 3, DC 13 in the magic ring, (CH 3 counts as a DC) (14)

RD 2 – CH 4 (counts as DC and CH 1), **DC in next ST, CH 1**, **repeat around, (you will have 13 DC, CH 1 combos, plus your starting CH 4)

RD 3 – CH 3, DC 2 in each CH space and DC in the top of each DC (41 + Ch 3)

RD 4 – CH 5 (counts as DC and CH 2), skip next ST, **DC in next ST, CH 2-skip 1 ST, DC in next ST**, **repeat around (20 DC-CH 2 combos + CH 5)

RD 5 – CH 3, DC 2 in each CH 2 space, DC in the top of each DC around. (62 sts + CH 3)

Placemat 13″

RD – CH 1, SC in the same ST, SC in the next ST, CH 2 Picot, **SC in the next 3, CH 2 Picot**, **repeat pattern around in each ST (94 SC, 31 Picots)
