Mini Succulent Pots
Everyone loves succulents! I know they are easy to take care of, but still not everyone has a green thumb or wants to be worried about watering. These cute Amazon finds made the sweetest faux succulent pots. I added the crochet pot so I could incorporate them in my summer markets.
These would be great for young girls, teens, college kids or to use as a gift for just about anyone. Use them in your home, office or dorm. No need to worry about watering!
The pots come in sets of 12 and 18 and in black or white. I got 2 different sizes: 2.5″ and 3″. I ordered styrofoam balls, packs of succulent picks and a package of moss all from Amazon. I do love ordering a lot of supplies like this because you can usually get them in bulk so you can keep your costs down and make it worth selling. My cost to make the pots (and that includes the yarn) is $4.37 for the 2.5″ pots and $5.88 for the 3″ pots. They sell great at markets for $10 (2.5″) and $12 (3″). They are also super quick to make. It is a great low priced item to have at Spring – Fall markets.
For the yarn, I used Lion Brand Lazy Days. It is a bulky polyester tube yarn. You can also use Wool Ease Thick and Quick like I did on the Mini Flower Pots.
I put the styrofoam ball into the pot to fill the space, inserted the succulent pick of choice into the center of the ball (I even added a little hot glue), then used some hot glue to glue moss on top to cover the styrofoam ball.
I used 2 different stitches for these pots. The Trinity Stitch and the Suzette Stitch. Both give nice texture to the pots. The directions are the same for both pots, so you can choose your stitch.
Supplies
- 6.5mm hook
- chunky yarn, I used Lion Brand Lazy Days tube yarn
- 2.5″ or 3″ pots
- 2.35″ styrofoam balls or 2.75″ styrofoam balls
- mini succulent picks
- spanish moss
- hot glue
- scissors
- yarn needle
- leather tags optional, rivets
Abbreviations
- MR – magic ring
- CH – chain
- SL ST – slip stitch
- SC – single crochet
- SC inc – single crochet increase (2 SC in same space)
- BLO – back loop only
- Trinity Stitch – Start of RD: SC, insert hook into same space and pull up a loop, insert hook into next space and pull up a loop, insert hook into the next space and pull up a loop, YO and pull through all loops, CH 1. Remaining STs: insert hook into the previous space and pull up a loop, insert hook into the next space and pull up a loop, insert hook in the next space and pull up a loop (you will have 4 loops on hook), YO and pull through all loops and CH 1.
- Suzette Stitch – [SC, DC] worked into the same space, skip space and repeat
Crochet 2.5″ Pot
RD 1 – 8 SC in MR
RD 2 – SC inc around (16)
RD 3 – SC 3, SC inc repeat around (20)
RD 4 – SC BLO around (20)
RD 5 – 8 – SC in first ST, Trinity ST around, DO NOT CH after the last Trinity ST of each round
or
RD 5-8 – Suzette Stitch around
Rd 9 – SC around
RD 10 – Edging [SL ST – CH 1] in each space
Crochet 3″ Pot
RD 1 – 8 SC in MR
RD 2 – SC inc around (16)
RD 3 – SC 2, SC inc repeat around, SC in last ST (21)
RD 4 – SC 4, SC inc, repeat around, SC in last ST (25)
RD 5 – SC BLO around (25)
RD 6 – 10- SC in first ST, Trinity ST around, CH after the last Trinity ST of each round
or
RD 6-10 – Suzette Stitch around, SC in the last ST
Rd 11 – SC around
RD 12 – Edging [SL ST – CH 1] in each space
