Lainey Beach Bag

Who doesn’t love a good beach bag?!

I needed a new beach bag for a trip and started doing some research. I wanted a sturdy yarn and one that sand wouldn’t stick to. I made a simple market bag with Lily’s Sugar ‘n Cream yarn, but it wasn’t sturdy enough. I decided to try a cording. I found this 2mm cord from Amazon. I loved the strength of the cord and that it had a sheen to it. It comes in so many great colors. And sand does not stick! There’s a chance it’ll get through, but it’ll shake out. You need 2 skeins for this bag and they come in a 2 pack.

I Tried to find a pattern I liked and struggled. I didn’t want it to have big holes. I didn’t want to worry about things falling out or too much sand get in. So I wrote a pattern shaped the way I wanted, choosing single crochet stitches to keep the holes small.

I also like to use a canvas pouch to hold my phone and wallet/cash, just for extra protection. You can chose a simple canvas pouch, make one if you have a cricut or find a cute set on Amazon with great sayings.

I have 3 different styles. The Summer Beach Bag, The Lainey Beach Bag and The Seaside Beach Bag. All use the same cord and hook size. All 3 styles will be available in my Etsy shop and Ravelry if you like to keep a PDF file on hand. I like to save my PDF files in iBooks as well as my computer. With my phone or iPad, I always have them with me.

This pattern is worked in the round (unless specified to join). You will need a stitch marker for your beginning stitch. I also use several stitch markers to mark my stitches when I work the handles.
