Martian Mittens

During one of my holiday expos this year, I had a customer ask if I could create a 3 finger mitten. Her daughter had a pair that she had and she really liked and lost them. She wanted to gift her a new pair for Christmas. I told her I would work it out.
I started with an existing pattern and started with the cuff size. She said her daughter’s hand was probably the same size as mine, which is an average adult size. Then I started working up the body of the mitten. I had to work in a couple extra increases before making the thumb hole and the finger to make sure they were wide enough.
In the end they turned out great! My husband said they reminded him of the Vulcan hand signal, but Vulcan is a copyrighted name, so we decided to call it the Martian Mitten.

My customers daughter liked them so much that she ordered another pair for herself!
The pattern has 3 sizes: small adult, adult and large adult.

I used worsted weight yarn. My favorite soft worsted weight yarn is Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn. You can also use Heartland, Big Twist, Pound of Love (although I do think Pound of Love is a little thinner, so it might work up a little different).

-You will JOIN and CH at the end of each round in the body of the mitten
-There is a Right and Left hand so that the seam of the mitten is on the palm of the hand.
